Summer Stuff Giveaway!

Hi friends! I hope as you're reading this, you're winding down from a fabulous Memorial Day weekend! I'll blog about mine a little later, but it was good! :) Currently watching The Bachelorette and despising Bentley. Ugh.

Sooooo I promised a giveaway with some of my fav summer things and here it is! :) I picked things that I'm kiiinda in love with lately and I wanted to keep adding things, but cut myself off- haha! Maybe I'll do a second summer things giveaway once my budget gets through some of these weddings, babies, bachelorette parties, etc... :)

So here are the things I'm giving away in one fun summer care package of sorts! :)

1. Eos lip balm in summer fruit! Brown Girl got me really digging this stuff after she blogged about it. I recognized it from her blog while waiting in line for allergy meds at the drugstore. I talked myself into trying it within about .5 seconds. ;) It's a fun, funky shape that's easy to find in your handbag, a fabulous flavor AND it makes your lips super smooth! Can't go wrong!

2. Banana Boat Summer Color self tanner. I.love.this.stuff! I tried Jergen's and it was okay, but I really didn't like the smell AND felt like it made me streaky within a few days. Blerg. I've tried alllll kinds b/c I'm a former tanning addict (haha) and love having some color and this is my fav!!!! Check out the reviews on Ulta! I like it in the deep, dark color b/c it works even on my fair skin tone without making me look orange. It's tinted going on so you can see where you're putting it. I mix it with my moisturizing lotion in my palm and then apply it. My regular lotion helps with any smell AND doesn't allow it to get uneven anywhere. (Best amount= 3/4 tanning lotion and 1/4 moisturizing lotion, mix together in palms and apply evenly to wherever you want color). :).

3. Opi Nail Color in Cajun Shrimp! Sooooo Morgan blogged about this and Ulta has been sold out ever since early spring! I guess it's a favorite for a lot of people...haha.. *shrugs* Anyway, when I saw they actually had it the other day, I got one for myself and one for this giveaway! :)

 4. Women's Health June edition with Heather Morris on the cover! :) This mag is a definite poolside read!
 5. And a cute summer scarf! (See below) I lurve scarves year-round, so they're still a staple in summer for me. :)  I couldn't find a pic online anywhere, but I fell in love with it and had to add it to the mix! It's navy blue with fun pink, orange, yellow.

So, there ya go! Some of my fav summer things!

To enter:
1 entry (mandatory) Be a follower of my bloggidy and tell me at least one of YOUR fav summer things!
1 extra entry- As mentioned below, VOTE for my friend, Maria's video! See below blog post. Entry only applies through today, Memorial Day, since today is the last day of voting. Thanks to all who have already voted and therefore entered the giveaway already! YAY!

Easy peasy, right? Giveaway ends this Thurs, June 2! I'll select a winner on Friday and get the winner's package in the mail shortly thereafter! YAY!

Thursday randomness AND an upcoming giveaway you can enter now!

1. My DVR quit working so I missed the finale of Glee and Biggest Loser. (haha..seriously, I'm only acting annoyed. I'm really just thankful to be safe and sound). Hulu will save the day.

2. My roomie and I...once TERRIFIED of our cellar...made a "survival kit" for the cellar this week. We used to joke like "I'd NEVER get in there..." On Tuesday, she text me and said "I'm headed to the hardware store for lanterns after work." I responded "I'm heading to Target for batteries and water." The cellar was no longer a joke! My roomie and I both packed bags. And Tuesday, we sat glued to the tv, fully dressed, ready to go.

It's a very weird feeling to look around and think "what should I pack under the assumption that I could never see my belongings again?" I just stood in my room, looking around and thinking "this is all replaceable. I just pray that we all-dogs included-have time to make it to the cellar if the storm hits." I grabbed my passport and a few other affects and was good to go.

Thank gosh we never had to take cover. When we were given the "all clear," I was so relieved and I continued saying prayers for everyone in the storm's path as it moved past us.

3. I've read almost every account of the Joplin tornado I can get my hands on. (This one is probably the best article I've read. Read with kleenex.) I stalk online articles, facebook, etc. There are so many people in need. I sometimes feel like one can make a bigger impact by targeting one thing to help with...and my "thing" has been animals. So, thank you to those of you who commented on my blog and/or gave to Joplin Humane Society. And thank you to those of you who have helped in other ways...or have even said prayers. I think the people of Joplin need those just as much as anything else right now.

4. Trying to get away from the mushy gushy here..  Let's see.. Um.. Had a department dinner at a co-workers house this week. :) Glad bbq weather is back in full effect! We grilled, had some cold beverages and had a great time. :) They even had a bouncy castle thing for the kids. Admittedly, I'm kinda bummed that I'm too big for bouncy castles. I mean...those things are awesome, right? ha! :)

5. I am super excited for a three day weekend! No plans (for once!) and nothing but sun in the forecast. Hell to the yes.

6. My friend, Maria, is up for the Directv's ultimate movie fan contest! What's the grand prize? A TRIP TO THE MTV MOVIE AWARDS and she'd get to hang with the stars!! AGH! If you've visited Maria's blog from my links, you'd know she's an extremely talented video producer. So, it's no surprise her video entry to the contest ROCKS. Entrants had 2 minutes to demonstrate why they're the ultimate fan. Maria went the extra mile and made her video somewhat similar to Social Network with a different angle. So cool!

Here's the dealio: Some of the people have their dogs, neighbors, fourth cousins friends voting every single day so Maria is really crossing fingers and toes that she makes it to the finals where judges will vote on her video. She's already in the semi-finals. If you have a minute, go to this link and click "Vote!" It's that easy! AND you don't have to sign up for anything! It will just ask if you're a directv customer and you say yes/no and you're done! No names, personal info, etc! Easy.as.pie. Please take a moment and go vote for my friend! If she makes it to the MTV awards, she and I have thought about a really.cool.blog.giveaway! TBD!

Also, please comment and let me know if you've voted! I'm doing "a few favorite summer things" blog giveaway next week and I've decided that anyone who votes for Maria's video gets an automatic head start entry for my giveaway! :) (This is code for "Jackie hasn't had time to go pick up all of said giveaway items she wants to pick up yet." haha.... ;) You can vote once every day through Monday and I'll give you an entry for every time you vote. You just have to let me know you did it! Come back Monday for more giveaway details! :)

Okay, hope you're gearing up for a fabulous Memorial Day weekend, friends!

Cheers to a long weekend! :)

Update- Blogs for Dogs and Cats!

Lookie at something I stumbled on today... A fellow blogger came up with a GREAT idea to set up an amazon gift registry for the Joplin Humane Society! She started it out of the goodness of her heart (and GENIUS creativity). She and others let Joplin Humane Society know about her efforts via facebook and now Joplin Humane Society has been able to tell her what they want/need so she's able to add it to the list!

What an amazing thing to do and great way to help! Check it out!

Help Joplin's Displaced Animals!

Hi friends. Sunday's tornado is now being called the single deadliest tornado in our nation's history since records have been kept. It's astounding and something I can't even fathom. Thanks so much for your kind words on my last post about my friend being okay. I hope that you, your family, friends, pets, etc are all safe and sound.

I wanted to give you some ways you can help, should you desire. I know many of us in blog world are animals lovers; there are many displaced pups and cats waiting on their owners to come find them. I've been following the animal relief agencies and they're doing all they can, but they're in dire need of supplies. I just can't stop thinking "What if that was Gracie?" I'd want her to be safe and sound and have food, blankets, supplies, wherever she was until I was able to find her. If I'd lost everything, but was able to be reunited with Gracie, that would mean so very much to me...

This guy was found yesterday in the rubble.... He looks so sad and terrified. Saying a little prayer that he finds his people very soon.

I know we're all busy, but if you're like me and headed home to a place with a roof over your head with your belongings, families and animals safe and secure, you're very blessed. Many of these people have lost everything.

If you'd like to give a gift as small as $10, you can do so on Joplin's Humane Society site by clicking here. You may also make a donation on Missouri's Humane Society site by clicking here.

Just think, friends. If less than HALF of my followers all gave $10, we'd be giving $2500 dollars. Just think of how much food, blankets, etc, that would buy! I rarely issue pleas for donations on my blog for anything, but it's just such a small amount to help in a big way.

Just to give you an idea, here's the same street...the day before the tornado...and the day after... This is what they're dealing with. Brings tears to my eyes.
And no, of course I'm not forgetting about the people struggling to recover, find family members and belongings in what was once their home. There are SO many relief efforts going strong and giving to ANY of them will make a big impact. I'm reminded of my time as a volunteer at the United Way. Do you know that over 70% of the over 24 MILLION dollars raised in my city every year is from INDIVIDUALS? That's right; money comes from people like you and me that just give what they can...

We really can make an impact, friends. There have been so many areas impacted by powerful storms this year and we're all very lucky to be safe and sound...

Praying for Joplin...

As you likely know, a massive tornado-the most devastating in Missouri's history-ripped through Joplin yesterday evening. For those of you not familiar with the area, Joplin is just about an hour and a half down the highway from Tulsa... As more storms are expected to tear through the area over the next couple days, even possibly some tornados, my prayers go out to everyone in Joplin and the surrounding area...

My friends, Lauren and Tyler (the girl from last weekend's wedding shower at the bottom of this post) were in Joplin, following the passing of her grandmother. They were actually in her grandmother's home when the tornado hit. She said she heard a window blow out and that's when they took off for the bathroom. All five family members in the house at the time huddled in the bathtub and are thankfully safe! She said it was absolutely terrifying to see chunks of ceiling being peeled away to reveal the sky above them... She sent some pics and I thought I'd share.... The devastation is surreal...

These are all what was once her grandmother's home...

 Tyler's (her fiance) Tahoe...
 The front of the house...
I know this tornado season has been absolutely devastating for many areas of the country.. So sad. Many relief efforts are being launched locally and I'll try to come back to this post and start linking them up if you want to help...

With storms approaching my area over the next couple days, I plan on stocking my creepy storm cellar with extra batteries, extra flashlight, battery powered radio, etc in an airtight tub. I mean, believe me, I don't wanna have to go in there (b/c it's CREEPY) but creepy cellar vs. tornado... The winner is obvious. Admittedly, living in tornado alley my whole life, I took tornados seriously..but not SUPER seriously. We used to play drinking games in college during tornado warnings. I mean, the sirens go off at least 10-15 times per tornado season so I guess you just get used to them... But, maybe I'm just getting older and wiser b/c now I'm of the better safe than sorry school of thought...

See? It really is creepy! (Please ignore the hand weights we're using to keep it propped. ha)

Weekend Recap!

Hi friends! Is there a lot going on lately or is it just me? My fridge is covered in wedding announcements, baby fun, and a couple unrelated events thrown in. As I read everyone else's blogs and see friends' facebooks, it looks like everyone has quite a bit happening around now. Fun stuff for sure, but definitely need to remember to take some personal time to level it out, right? Right. :) Reasons I love Sundays: I always get "Jackie time." I grocery shop, blog (sometimes), watch tv, walk Gracie, work out... fabulous. :) Anyway, as for the rest of the weekend:

Like I said in my previous post, Eric and I headed to a friend, Alicia's, 30th birthday dinner and celebration. :) After dinner, the group headed to the new and very vintage-fabulous Dust Bowl Lanes in downtown Tulsa. They definitely paid a lot of attention to detail and I really loved it. :) I forgot my camera, so I got these w/ my phone.
Carrie and Chris siting in front of the desk where we kept score. Yup, you keep your OWN score-nothing automatic! Crazy, right? Really fun, though. :)
Outdoor patio w couches made of turf! ha! Awesome.
Afterwards, I headed to meet a girl friend for a glass of vino before calling it a night. :) It was a LONG Friday. Girl time and wine was definitely in order, so I was determined to make it happen.

Saturday morning, my friend hosted a Stella & Dot brunch. :) Loved seeing all the jewelry! I felt really badly b/c not a lot of people showed up sooooo I definitely felt like I needed to buy something. I know I know.. I probably didn't need to, but whatever. Anyway, I bought these adorable deco drop earrings and am excited to receive them in the mail soon-even though I'm still not pleased with myself for having no spending willpower...
Saturday afternoon was the Can You Dig It construction birthday party for Jenny's son, Maddox! He turned two! (I cannot believe he's already two! Agh!)

Jenny with her little birthday boy!

Loved the little touches like construction-shaped signs for the sandwiches!

Awesome treats (and party favors for the kids in those buckets).
We also had a "build your own ice cream sundae" station!

The girlies! We're all headed to Memphis later this summer and already can't wait! :)

My friends with their basketball team...haha! So funny that they have all boys!
Little Landen slipped and got more water on him than he wanted and you would have thought life was over. It wasn't funny...but it really was. Sarah (laughing and running to retrieve her little guy in the photo) got him out and all was right with the world in about 30 seconds when the bubble machine was turned on nearby... ha! :) We decided this photo is an excellent candidate for that someday-yearbook-photo like "Can you guess who this is?" when he graduates high school...  :)

Little Parker enjoying his drink...er..maybe just the straw :)
I got the birthday boy some books and people, I am pretty much convinced that the children's section at Barnes & Noble is the happiest place in town. I just sat on the ground and read book after book, listening to the super cute sounds of kids discovering some of my fav childhood books for the first time in the background and laughing melodically. Having a bad day? Go read children's books. It will help. Promise. :)

Sooooo I've been kiiiiinda obsessed with the leather bracelets and wrap bracelets that are so popular right now. Randomly, I snagged this one at Target today for 7 dollars! SEVEN.DOLLARS! Hello awesome!
I really like the look of the bracelet above combined with a fun wrap bracelet like the below, but can't seem to find any cheap  affordable ones. I kinda want turquoise or coral, I think... :) No idea when I got into bracelets, but lately I'm diggin' them lots!

Welp, folks, that's the weekend! I'll leave with with a smile from Gracie dog from the weekend!

Thoughts on Thursday!

I've never done Thoughts on Thursday but it seemed like a fun way to be random in a post AND have a theme at the same time... and well, we've met... so you know the randomness is something I enjoy doing. haha.. ;)

Thoughts on Thursday:
  •  A friend of mine works at a doggie day care/vet's office. Apparently someone gave up their Cavalier King Charles and she needs a home. I want to give her one SO badly, but with my roomie's dog that thinks our house is his toilet and my Gracie dog, that would make THREE dogs in a house. That's a lot. *sigh* But, I want her. If you live in the area and want a Cavalier, especially one that isn't a puppy that needs training but is still young, please let me know. :)
  • I've gone to bed decently early every night this week! As my twitter friend, Charlie, would say.. #winning. ;)
  • Adele and I have been bonding. In other words, I've been annoying everyone in my vicinity by unconsciously humming Rolling In the Deep.
  • Eric and I might head out of town for my birthday, likely to Kansas City b/c it's been awhile since either of us have been! :) I told him I really just want to be poolside on my bday (preferably with a drink, but whatever), and possibly go eat somewhere new and fun. We can shop the plaza, see Power and Light, etc. Any recs from blogger friends on fun KC things to see/eat/do? :)
  • Eric and I went and toured the Designer Showcase hotel tonight. Fun stuff! This is the first year they've done a whole hotel instead of just a house and it was way cool. As background, the "designer showcase" is something in Tulsa where different designers each take a room, renovate it, and then show off the entire thing for a small fee that benefits the Foundation for Tulsa Schools. :) And you can actually purchase pretty much anything in most rooms-fixtures, furniture, etc. (But it all stays til the end of the event so you can see each room in full as the designer intended). This time was extra fabulous b/c they took on the old Campbell Hotel, a hotel that had been great in its hayday, dedicated in 1927, but had definitely seen better days. Here's a local newspaper article about the project with a great slideshow. If you're in the area, this is the last weekend it's being shown, so get down there! :)
  • Tomorrow night is a friend's 30th birthday at the new Dust Bowl in downtown Tulsa. It's a small, vintage-style bowling alley appropriately named for Oklahoma (haha) that just opened last week. :) Excited to see the new place!
  • The new Pirates movie comes out this weekend. Gonna see it? Like those flicks? I wanna see it. But, I'm kinda bummed b/c I haven't seen Kiera or Orlando in the previews, so I checked..and they're definitely not in it. Bummer.
  • Looking for a new book to read. Any recs? I usually go for mystery-thriller types. Loved Dragon Tat books, etc. :) Anyone read Hunger Games? Good?

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Weekend Recap!

Good Monday, friends! How was your weekend?
I realize I slacked on last weekend's post so maybe I'll add stuff lata. Last week while I was blog slacking, I also helped host a successful Young Alum event at my alma mater (Woohoo!) and had a girls night at Jenny's. She's having a construction-themed bday ("Can You Dig It" - how cute is that?!) for her little boy this weekend and we helped make construction signs like "Toddler Zone" etc.. haha.. Sarah and I had a bit of wine and started making inappropriate words with the letters. Wine makes crafts more fun. Just saying. ;)

Anyway as for the weekend, it was pretty awesome. As I've mentioned, Eric and I have been a tinge overcommited (I always hear the Britney song "Overprotected" but substitue "Overcommitted" in my head. Odd? I know..."Say hello.. to the girl... that I am..." haha.. ). Sooooo I convinced him to take Friday off work...and I did the same.. and I planned a little day trip to OKC! Neither one of us had taken a day off since before the holidays. Anyway, not exactly anywhere luxurious or tropical, but definitely different from the norm and a fun little day trip. :)

We started off at a Mexican Restaurant (duh, you know us) called Mama Roja  for lunch on Lake Hefner. It was a tinge chilly and cloudy, but the lake was still pretty (not as pretty as the below photo of Lake Hefner I stole from google images, but pretty nonetheless...).

After lunch, we headed to the Myriad Gardens that just reopened. The botanical gardens were quite pretty and cool to experience in their first couple weeks being open to the public! In the pic below, you'll see an outdoor ampitheater behind us (awesome) and the indoor gardens are to the left.

Below is an arial shot of the whole thing. It reminded me a bit of Millenium Park in Chicago... Very cool.
So we totally paid and went inside the greenhouse part. Duh. I mean why not. Eric likes cactus. (Okay, so I told him to do this. Whatever)
Indoor bridge across the garden :)
Indoor waterfall...
The plants were actually quite impressive. We did a few nods at each other like "these are cool."
From there, we headed to explore a few more places and finished up around 4ish with a drink on the outdoor deck at Nonna's in Bricktown. :) It was a bit windy, but with jackets and the sun out, it was perfect!

Courtest of google images :)
I caught him relaxing. I'd say the day was a success... :)
And then he saw me snapping his photo and did this...haha..
We walked to a nearby movie theater and saw Thor (so-so flick), and then headed back to T-town (an hour and a half drive or so), listening to the Thunder game on the way home. They were playing in Memphis that night or else I would've tried to get tix to the game. Perfect day away. :)

Saturday night, Eric and I headed to a late dinner at India Palace. I've decided Indian food is totally an acquired taste b/c I have grown to really dig it, despite not digging it at ALL the first time I went. Anyhoo, then we were total fat kids indulged in chocolate fondue for dessert at The Melting Pot. Kinda random, but so yummy! In short, we definitely did a lot of out-of-the-routine stuff this weekend, which was really kinda fun. :)

Sunday, I attended a bridal shower for a friend of mine, Lauren. (She's in the blue/white dress above). :) We went to law school together, but actually became closer when we realized we lived across the breezeway from each other at our old apartments. :) We bonded over things like 10+ days w/o power during an ice storm...and a random homeless man who liked to splash himself with water from our breezeway's birdbath whilst twirling around and singing. And randomly, her fiance and some of my friends were already friends! Such a small world! :) Excited for her wedding in Kansas City in the fall!

I also made it to the gym once this weekend. I consider that a personal victory. Where has my motivation gone? Blah. Been thinking of doing a bootcamp, but I SO hate to spend $125 bucks just to create accountability for myself...

Anyhoo, great weekend doing some different things, enjoying a day off with Eric, and preparing to round the corner to summahtime! Hope ya'll had a great one!

So What Wednesday!

So what if....
  • I'm blogging on my lunch break while I eat leftovers. I just got off a looooooooong (and slightly pointless) conference call. Who schedules calls over lunch anyway?
  • I'm actually excited about these leftovers...probably more so than going out to eat. They're from Eric and my first trip to an awesome local place, Lunabread. Tulsa friends- They MAKE everything there from scratch. As the chef said "We don't even have a jar of mayo here." They make their own root beer, ice cream, bread... Anyway, check it out and pay a visit!
  • I have a space heater under my desk right now. I'm such a rule breaker. Shhhhh... If you tell anyone, I'll say you put it there and I had no idea. ;)
  • I totally thought that Gossip Girl's season finale was this week (as evidenced by my last post). My friends and I were all watching wide-eyed at the end and then they showed previews for NEXT week's season finale. Aw hell. haha.. Oh well, still super excited!
  • I still haven't gotten the photos from Eric's camera from last weekend #slacker
  • I'm really pleased with myself for figuring out how to do a cool, messy bun in my hair today. It's the little things, people.
  • I kinda want a cocktail.
  • I have no idea what I want to do for my 30th birthday. No.idea. I feel like I should do something super cool, but also want to save money and not have to plan anything and/or entertain a large group of people. Blah. Maybe a quick weekend getaway...?

Monday Thoughts

One of my favorite days of the month: when my Glamour mag arrives. I really like getting "fun mail" and I consider magazines fun mail for sure. :)

But, here are my thoughts...

How many magazines have featured "Five Flat Belly Secrets That Work" lately? A lot. Every time I see a magazine, I see something about flat belly secrets. Soooo... that leads me to wonder? Is there some flat belly master with some massive book....
...with flat belly tips that's under lock and key? And maybe only editors of fashion and fitness magazines have access to this book? B/c um.. why must they only release FIVE at a time? I picture the keeper of this book to look like an old, wise, Jillian M!chaels with her awesome attitude to match.

But, uh, I'm gonna need someone to get to the bottom of this b/c, as bikini season approaches, I'm going to need more than five tips at a time. Thanks in advance.

#totallyrandom #Monday <-- I like giving hash tags to things that aren't on twitter. Whatever.

Weekend Recap coming. Eric has some photos on his camera that I have to get. It was a good one-his bro graduated college, we saw a movie, I finished the book Something Borrowed (good stuff!), and Mother's Day was great with my mom. :) I hope all you hot mammas out there had a fabulous Mother's Day!

For now, Gossip Girl season finale is t minus an hour and fifteen minutes... Bottle of wine chilling in fridge, peanut butter and jelly sandwich is calling my name. I'm gourmet around here, people. Happy Monday!

10 (Random) Things I Love :)

Guess what! I was tagged in 10 Things I Love by the fabulous Married... with a Pup! How fun! :) Soooo here goes!

 In random order:

(1)  Yup, still loving them. Deal with it. :)

 (2) Visiting big cities! I just love looking out on all the lights and buildings as the plane prepares to land and thinking about how much there is to explore, take in, experience.. It's exhilarating!

 (3) The ocean. Pretty much any time I stand in front of the ocean, I'm reminded how small I really am. It's a great big spoonful of awesome to just stand before something that vast.
(4) No no.. not them again... but carriages. I love carriages! They just seem so "old world" and romantic. They're likely not as romantic when the horse does his business whilst walking said carriage, but let me have my nice, unrealistic thought. :)
 (5) I love lipgloss. It's weird. I carry approximately 12 in my handbag at all times. I mean, you never know when you're going to need another color.. ? *shrugs* I'm weird. I know.
 (6) Stopping to smell the roses a little more. Eric and I have been so incredibusy. I know I blog and it seems like we've got lots of fun going on...and we do. And we both love being involved. BUT we haven't had lots of down time going on...or time to just enjoy each other's company...or our own company for that matter. We've both agreed to say "no" a little more to things b/c those "things" quickly take over our schedules... :)
 (7) Cardigans. Esp longer ones. I'm typically cold, so there's that. But they're also cute, stylish, and easily dressed up with fun accessories-belts, pins, yada yada.. :)
 (8) Not really rain... even though our plants have loved the recent downpour we've been getting. But I LOVE the smell of a spring rain...not a storm..but just a rain. It just smells so fresh.. :)
 (9) The crack of candy...aka these peaches. They're so good, friends. SO.GOOD. They're my favorite and Eric's parents...er... the Easter Bunny... ;) got me some in my basket. I may have eaten two bags already. Let's not talk about it. (The bag says fat free, though! It's like eating celery...er... whatever).
(10) Last but certainly not least, this little lady, my own royal princess, Ms. Gracie dog. Even when she's snoring or chasing squirrels in her dreams (as I assume), she brings a smile to my face.
I'm supposed to tag 10 people, but I know Tuesday is a super popular day for bloggidy topics, so if ya'll have time and wanna do it, I say go for it! So yeah, I'm opting out of the formal tagging... Sorry, friends. Lemme know if you do it so I can come read!
