Stream of consciousness (Volume 15)

So, I have a lot to say but dont really think it's all that sensical or important. So, here you go.

Dude. I got back from my VP's meeting feeling good. The topics had to do with things that my little BA in Psych brain totally digs- Leadership coaching, dynamics of a successful team, etc. One thing a speaker said that struck me is...success is really just a combo of three things:

LUCK. TIMING. OPPORTUNITY.

Hit the nail on the head if you ask me. You see, I have wrestled and wrestled lately with "do I make a move now?" versus "Do I wait this out and see where it takes me" versus "But, I'm only young once and what if I dont push this thing? What if I'm missing a chance?" versus "But I dont wanna push it too hard.. if things are meant to be, then they are."

Whew.

I'm talking about work, decisions, relationships, life. I think your twenties are filled with trying to figure out how much to push things versus how much to sit on them and hope they work out. Job. Money. Moving. Relationship. Whatever. It applies all over the board.

It truly is luck + timing + opportunity. Does that make things any more clear? No. *sigh* You'd have NO idea how overanalytical I've been lately about this whole "life" thing. It's quite annoying to Gracie. She hears me vent a lot. She tilts her head and acts interested. Whatever.

Okay, here's Volume 16 within volume 15

Now that I'm old enough/in a job where I do business travel, business MEN freak me out. Since when did airports become a dating service? Someone needs to tap into this market. Seriously. Match.com anyone?

I mean...I think I had like 3 guys hit on me from the rental car drop to the airport to back home. None made me feel overly flattered by their advances. Let's put it like that. My personal fav was the guy who said he was in town for a LAWSUIT with his exwife. (I'd told him I was a lawyer thinking it'd make him go away. It obviously didn't). It's just freaky and weird. It's like some subculture of sexual airport predators. Granted, I was the ONLY chick in a sports bar and was eating nachos and drinking a Corona. I didn't exactly look unapproachable.

Other stuff
I watched the debate (Dem) from my hotel room. I gotta say I'm NOT a fan of the mud-slinging, but Hil won some points with me that she'd originally lost. She had a bad suit on, though. And Barack's ears looked bigger than normal. Then there's poor Edwards who didn't get hardly any air time. I'll be tired of all ths soon. For now, I'm typically on the edge of my seat. WHEN did I care about politics? *sigh* I'm more interested in the strategy of it all. Saw a pic of Hil and Bill's faces merged.. title "Hill-Billy" ha! Bring on super Tuesday! :)

Washington DC is coming up!!! Carrie and I will be meeting there!! YAY! I have a work conference there and then am staying an extra night so Carrie can drive up. You guys are gonna just love two blogs full of the same photos.. lol! In all seriousness, I'm pretty pumped. With the conf being over Valentines and with my co-worker bringing her hubby, I was kinda bummed. (Aaron's got the bar exam and stuff). Carrie and I had talked about meeting there, but actually made formal plans today! :) Plus, I havent been to DC since before I could legally drink.. Let's not talk about that phase in my life, though. lol!

If you've made it this far, Little Gracie ate my boots....and heels.. So, if you know anywhere that has black heels on sale, let me know ASAP. I'm going at lunch tomorrow (Friday). Sorry for the randomness. Thanks for bearing with me.

Oh, and who is ready for The Rock?! Headed there before DC! WOO HOO!! I get to feel Kat's belly. That sounds dirty. Yeah, it does. ha!

This sounds weird, but I always buy my nine west boots at Stein Mart on sale! I never have good luck at DSW or anything like that.

I used to find the BEST shows at Stien Mart. My Mum lived right around the corner from the one at 51st and Harvard and I used to walk there before I could drive. A couple years ago I got some black leather ballet flats from Nine West there for like $15 a pair. They were so great I got two pairs of the same show. I just wore out the second pair and had to throw it out. So sad.

Anyway, about timing and opportunity and luck and the rest, I think you are right-on. Not that it makes anything more clear, but it helps with the anxiety. I mean, while I agonize over what is the "right" or "wrong" decision I should realize that there probably isn't a right or wrong, and there's no way of knowing in the long run what will be the best decision. ack. but like you, i want answers. NOW!!! will it all be easier once we hit 30?
