Random Updates... :)

Sooooooo guess what I think I've decided....

I think my friend, Marla (below) and I are gonna live together!!!!
Where does this come from, you ask?!

Okay... well.. we're both in our late 20s (dont remind me) and are STUCK in apartments. Hers is crazy $$ and my 1940s remodel has no central heat and air (or parking. or storage. or dishwasher).

Sooooooo we both want to buy a house individually. But um.. the houses I can afford will likely need some work. (Dear Law Student Loans, thank you for my mortgage-sized payment that makes me feel like I'm getting beaten with a stick..haha.. whatever, "the degree will pay off" as people say...and as I hope!). And like I've blogged before, if anything major breaks, it will likely hurt my pocket book severely. And well.. older homes have stuff go wrong around here all.the.time. So, that's a risk. A major one. And then new homes... yeah.. well.. they're (1) farther away and (2) more expensive...at least what I want.. haha..

She's in the same boat.

Sooooooo we thought hey, why not live together?! I mean...even for just a year.. renting a little casa would enable us to both put quite a bit more cash into our savings accts...

And we really get along...but aren't like inseparable (aka healthy roomie sitch). This is the first time I've thought I could live with someone since I had a less than desirable roomie sitch years ago... (Can you tell all the analysis I've put into this? Having a bad roomie sitch makes one do that.. Have you ever had someone you didn't live well with?)

We've asked each other the important questions...and been really honest with each other.

And still think it'll work! :)

She has a little doggie that'll have to meet G dawg first. :) And Saturday, we're gonna do brunch and go see what we can find around town! I was kinda leery about the idea at first, but I'm actually kinda excited now! I mean.. neither of us WANT a lifelong roommate in each other, but for a year... and having some of the amenities we both want for less $ (a yard for our puppies!), why not, right?!

I've outgrown this apt. I feel blessed to have a roof over my head, an adorable little place that has served me very well for a few years, etc, but hopefully we'll find something that will be more suitable for us both for now and re-evaluate in a year if we do. :) Cross your fingers for us! And if you're in the area and know of anything/any good areas I might not be thinking of, let me know! :)

Other things: ******************************

* LOST WAS AMAZING!!! I wont ruin anything in case you havent seen it, but I was SO PISSED about something and then got all better about it by the end! But now I'm nervous b/c um.. the only other time that happened, we all saw the result... and that result is carrying Richard on his shoulders right now. *nervous*

* Another winter blast is coming. Just in time for the weekend. Put this on the list of things that hack.me.off. Dear Mr. Winter (b/c it totally has to be a man), I have a hair appt this weekend.. and I also wanna go look for houses with Marls...and well.. I'd like to maybe be able to drive to my boyfriend's house or vise versa this weekend.. So, if you could just behave yourself, that'd be great. (Granted, I'm still happy to have electricity).

* February and I have an unhealthy relationship. This month isn't my favorite.... This is kinda how I feel the whole month.. like I'm in a suspense movie peering through...
Sorry if you love it.. but it hasn't been kind to me in the past. Last year wasn't bad at all though, so I'm hoping I'll sail right on in to March unscathed. :) It's the month of LOVE afterall, right? Yeah, I dunno.. seemed appropriate.

So... there ya go.. final thoughts: Ever had a less than great roomie sitch? Didya watch Lost?! And what's your least favorite Month? :)

Happy Hump Day, peeps!

Ok...so the roomie thing...i've been burned before. BAD at that!!! She mad is so bad that well...the next roomie i had was my hubs when we got hitched :)- Lol

I think that with you both going into the situation with specifics on what works and what doesn't...you're already ahead of the game. It's also good that you're not dependent on each other and can do things solely on your own and with others. Good idea to save money away...i say go for it...it couldn't do ya any worse than living alone. Right?!!!

I am sure the roomie business will be great! It sounds like you are being all adult and mature and smart about it- asking and discussing specifics and all. That comes with having those bad experiences... and believe me, we've all had them. I am pretty much horrified at the thought of three years with roommates (going back to school and all) after 3+ years without. And I loooove living by myself. Ugh. It's gonna be rough- but I am more inspired that it could be great after reading this! Good luck!

I totally think you should room with her if you know what you are getting yourself into ahead of time! Then you won't be blindsided, and who the heck wouldn't LOVE being your roomate!!! You can come live with Gabe and I -- haha!

I made the mistake of moving in with my best friend during college. Very long story short, we didn't speak for a couple of years. Everyone said "Don't live with your best friend," but we didn't listen. Thankfully now everything is sorted out and we are best friends again. (5 years later..) The good news is that after her and I broke up, I moved in with a girl from work that I didn't know all that well, and living with her turned her into a very good friend. So I think it can go either way.

I think having a roommate is a good idea. It does help save money and will get you ahead in the long run. Plus I'm sure you'll have some great stories:)

It sounds like you have thought out the roommate situation in detail and I am all about saving money. I had class last night so I will be watching Lost tonight, can't wait.

I think it's good that you guys are friends but not inseparable. I lived with my inseparable best friend my senior year in college and we weren't talking by the end of the year!! (Problem solved, she was in my wedding last year!!) I just think it's good if you guys get along, but also know to do your own thing. It sounds like a great situation for me (and I'm a teensy bit jealous because I want a house with a yard!!)

Umm...the first 4 of my 6 roomies in college (yes it took that many to find one I worked with) were horrible. The 5th and I just had opposite schedules so we didn't work, but 6 was perfect and we lived together for a eyar and a half. Lost was great and I totally know what you think. Bryan said "OH did the [man who burned in the fire] find the loophole too?" I was pissed that they didn't really show a preview. B said "Ya, I don't think they are going to." Good luck with finding the house :)

I think it's a great idea! Saving money will living in a better place is smart :) Since you two already asked the important questions and know each other, there shouldn't be too many surprises. Hopefully your pups get along too!

I'm right there with you about Mr. Winter. I woke up to 6 inches of snow this morning. A huge storm is heading our way on Friday night and will last until Saturday night. Some say we could get 2 feet of snow. I need a plane ticket out of here ASAP, I'm sure you do too lol

My least favorite month? Probably February as well. Nothing great happens this month and V-day is so over-rated, in my opinion. Sorry Valentine's day lovers!

I'm sure the roomie thing will be just fine! It's not forever right? :)

Good luck with the roomie thing I had some bad roomie experiences too so I'm with you on working out all the questions ahead of time. I think re-evaluating in a year is wise. Hopefully we won't get anymore bad weather I was kind of screaming at the weather man this morning. We are wanting to tour houses on Saturday too :(

The roomie situation sounds great! Especially if it's only for a year.

And I'm with you on February. It's the shortest month but always feels like the longest. It's still winter with no hope of spring. And Valentine's Day is lame. I've always thought so.

I think everyone has had bad roomie situations. It is rare that you find someone who goes to bed around the same time as you or cleans the right amount to make you happy. I like all the months!

I am with you on February. And January for that matter. Bring on Ms. Spring!

Sounds like a great idea! I hope the weather holds up so you can start the search!

I've had some bad roommates before buts its because we didn't talk everything out and they were looking for a BFF not a living mate that you can hang out with sometimes. So it seems like you have really thought this out which is totally the way to go!

And with LOST I totally agree! Can't wait for next week!

Sounds like you girls will be perfect roomies!! And I've never seen lost....sounds like I'm missing out!

Happy Hump Day to you too!!! I've had some greaattt roomies that will be friends for life, and some TERRIBLE ones. Now I have my boyfriend :) but the great roomies i've had were never best friends going into it or coming out and i think it's best like that. sounds like a good plan!

I've been burned pretttttttty bad in the roomie depo, but I say, y'all are both grown adults and can support yourselves, if you can save money and keep your sanity at the same time, do it!

That sounds so fun to live with your friend! And a healthy roomie situation is the way to go! I should totally write a post on my first college roommate who pooed on our dorm room floor quite a bit! That was not a healthy roommate situation and I got out of there asap!

Sierra said...

I totally understand needing a good roomie Jax, because I totally have had bad roomie vibes since the beginning! Either we are polar opposites, one is messy, the other clean, drug issues {yeah don't even get me started there...}and so on and so forth. Needless to say I am happy that you found your roomie! It is a great idea to save some money and glad you two fit well together. Can't wait to watch Lost!!!

I think the idea of a roomie is a great one, especially because it seems as though ya'll have really covered your bases.

p.s. I LOVE your posts --they always make me smile!

1) Had a horrible roommie sitch in college with a chica that was my best friend. We no longer really keep in touch and nothing was ever the same after... Lovely, right?

2) I don't watch Lost, but kinda wish that I did because of all of the hype!

3) March is my favorite month.... this March marks someone's FIRST BIRTHDAY.

Sarah said...

Not trying to be a debbie downer about your potential roomie.... you seem much more prepared, you have discussed important stuff and let's face it, we are far more mature now than what we were at 21. Plus everything with your house mate sounds squared away and it seems that it would help you A TON. Get out of that apt!!!

Can I Just tell you your Urban Dictionary word of the day really makes me laugh! We all know some vague bookers!

I lived with one of my best friends Meghan for two years and I loved it. We were best friends in high school, then went to seperate colleges and came back to Seattle to live together. It worked out really well for us and we had so much fun during those two years. As long as you guys are both open and honest, I think it will be great!

Llama said...

You both look like you could pass for sisters! Good luck to you both! I hope living together helps the both of you feel happy! Congrats!

Laura and Ryan said...

I did have a less than desirable roommate situation, but for some reason you just get along with people differently when you live with them.

That being said, I'm sure you two will be fine :) It's different when you are both busy and such.

One of the most true things I have ever, ever heard from anyone was "you never TRUELY know a person until you live together" and it's so true. Tammy and I lived together for 3 years and it was awesome, but we both got on each others nerves. And I mean, I've been best friends with her since 3rd grade and I learned things about her I never knew.

I think this is a great investment for you - because the housing market will boom again oneday!

Leslie @ A Blonde Ambition said...

I've definitely been in a not-so-great roomie situation, but having the company around is a plus, if you're a motor mouth like me : ) And it's nice to have someone to watch TV with, haha!

I'm not so crazy about the month of February, however, you can get great deals on clothes this month, since everyone is trying to get rid of winter stock, lol

Hi! I am new to your blog. Love it! I am also in my late 20's and been living on my own for a while. A good friend broke up with her boyfriend, and she was living in his house. She moved in with me as a temporary fix but it has turned out to be great! We have so much fun and it helps out the wallet also! Good luck

Way to go--that's really exciting! I think it's a brilliant idea. :)

If you guys have laid down the rules, that will definitely help. Although honestly, I can't imagine living with someone else right now. When I bought my townhouse I LOVED living by myself. And then shortly after met Adam and it is nice not to worry about anyone else when he is here!
