What I'm doing right now...

I'm taking "me" time. And it's GLORIOUS, people! (<--bolded, underlined and italicized. Just.saying.)

Here's the sitch: Eric had a little come-to-Jesus talk about me being too nice and not demanding enough of "my" time at home. I have a hard time focusing while my roomie is talking to me, so I go in my room...and she keeps talking. I shut my door...and she keeps talking... And she's so sweet...but I can't get anything done. I say "I'm working on the computer" and she keeps talking...

And like I said, she's so sweet. She really is. And I'm not good at being like "Okay, if I'm working on the computer, I really need it to be quiet which is why I'm in my room."

And it's not her fault that my routine is to utilize my home as my sanctuary for decompression and hers isn't as much...

So, I end up taking "me" time at like 11pm...and I get to sleep late...and I get frustrated....and it's just blah. It wears on me. And it makes me crankier than I should be.

Eric was like "Jackie, you used to blog all the time. You used to chill out at home a lot more. You just need to be more demanding of your time. Plain and simple."

And he's right. He said a very obvious thing, but I guess I just needed to hear it.

Tonight, I did it. I came in here and said "I need to work on alumni stuff (and I did), so I'm going to be antisocial." I shut my door....

And it worked...not right away... but it did!

And here I am... blogging! at 9pm! AND I've already gotten through all my personal email! (I can't get personal email at work, so I often neglect it when my weeks are busy b/c the last thing I want to do when I get home is read email).

So, I think I might try to blog Maui Day 3! And still be in bed at a decent hour! I am so freaking overjoyed! ANNNND I'll likely get to read quite a few of your blogs, too! eeeeeee!!! <-- excited squeal. :)

So, I'm busy. Whiney whiney yada yada. We all are. I've realized "my" time and what relaxes me is blogging-writing mine and reading yours, other interweb activities (surfing, facebooking, emailing), my tv shows, reading before bed, walking my pup, I could go on and on....but anyway.. yeah. I guess I've just realized that I really do NEED some of those things for my mental well-being.. ha! Go figure...  :)

So, what about  you? What do you like to do for your "I need this for myself" quality time?

Way to stand up to your roomie! I don't know how you've been getting by not taking "me time" for so long. I absolutely crave it. I take long baths, watch movies, walk the dogs, catch up on the DVR, bake...pretty much anything I do at home is me time since I don't have a roommate, but alot of that is stuff like paying the bills, which is not fun. I hope you keep it up and get all the time you need!

Oh, I totally think blogging is me time. I love looking through my pictures and thinking creatively about how I'm putting all together. I hope you enjoyed your night!

Our "me time" sounds very similar...and it sounds awesome to me! Glad you realized you have to have that time for you...definitely important!

ME time is the most important thing in the world. I totally have to decompress, especially when I get home from work! Watching tv, reading, blogging, stretching, cooking, having a glass of wine . . . all of it is so important and just crucial to my happiness!

totally understand your situation. my roomate (well she moved out a few months ago but we lived together for a year) was the EXACT same way. She talked NON stop no matter what I did or said. Sometimes you def need the quiet time for youself!

EVERYONE needs their "me" time, you are so NOT alone! Sometimes I just head to target to browse EVERY.SINGLE.ISLE. just so I can get some peace & quiet and clear my head. It's amazing how my mood changes once I do that!

p.s. I LOVE LOVE LOVE all your recaps from Hawaii, and so wish I was there! It is seriously beautiful!

p.s.s. I big pink puffy heart Eric's camera. ya'll got some GREAT photos!!!

Yay! Glad you got your me time in. You'll probably have to keep doing that until she gets the hint.

I get my me time by running, chilling out on the couch and watching my shows, bike riding... lovely! I also absolutely love when I go to bed early.

Good for you. Some people don't do subtle. Don't feel bad, it's just you gotta do what you gotta do!

Good job! That's soooo important. Sammy is the only "roommate" I've ever had who is completely respectful of "me time." We can stay in the same room all evening and not have to say a word to each other. Apart from living alone, it's the best possible outcome. ;-) All my old (female) roommates never got the hint when I said I needed alone time. Or they resented that I wanted quiet time by myself. So glad Eric is helpful and supportive when it comes to this sort of thing!

Oh that sounds wonderful! Good for you for closing the door and getting time for just you. :)

That sounds really similar to "my" time except I also like sleeping. Seriously, though, I need to cancel a few activities so I can get more of that time.
