Work it out

Remember the days where I used to blog everyday? Or at least the days I'd get my weekend recaps up on time? Yeah, me neither. Let's not talk about that... ;)

So, last night I pushup-ed. I boxed (with weights in each of my gloved fists, mind you). I rode a stationary bike (at level 7!) whilst balancing a medicine ball above my head.

Yeah, I went to my personal trainer for the first time.

And we worked on a little cardio, upper body, and some technique...but mostly upper body...for an HOUR.

Lemme tell you, peeps, I have never worked out my upper body for more than 15 minutes at a time soooo yeah.

It made me realize my upper body is incredibly out of shape...and I'm not pushing myself nearly enough at the gym on my own. B/c I CAN do it; I'm just NOT doing it.

So it was a good lesson. Why did I get the personal trainer? (not sure if I explained that) Well, I've been wanting to for AWHILE but don't want to go to the ones at my gym. I'd heard good things about a place in Tulsa.. and when I saw groupon was offering three personal training sessions at that place for a HUGE discount (seriously.. like 80% off), I jumped at the chance to try it out. I just wondered if I was even doing the right things to get the results I want, ya know. And what if I was doing something bad for my perma-injured back and didn't even know it? So, a personal trainer sounded like a good idea.

So, anyway, figured I wouldnt really be out much if I hated it b/c it was uber cheap.
But I definitely didn't hate it! I wish I could have a trainer all the time! ha!

I'm sore today. And I kinda have to focus on where I want my arms to go before I move them...haha... But, um..he wants me to come back tomorrow and Saturday. I didn't think we'd be doing all three sessions IN A ROW like this. Sheesh. I'm contemplating canceling tomorrow, going Saturday, and then going my third time next week sometime.

At one point, I pointed out the backs of my thighs and was like "I want to tone THIS" with a semi disgusted face. His response? "Well, you realize you can't just target that area. You have to step up your cardio and do all over workouts to see changes." I thought "I think I love his advice, but did he just confirm that I need to make changes on the backs of my thighs...haha..." I laughed to myself about that one. Don't ask the question if you don't want the answer, I suppose...

At one point, he threw me on the bike and had me pedal quickly as he increased resistance. He handed me a light medicine ball and had me hold it above my head as I pedaled. After all the pushups and punching and yada yada, I seriously felt like one of the Biggest L0ser contestants as my arms slowly lowered the ball no matter how much my brain willed my arms to stay above my head! I was trying SO HARD to keep them up there! Jax=weakling.

What's your LEAST favorite workout? Is it cardio? Weights? Do you hate yoga? I seriously have to make myself do cardio b/c I loathe it.

Wow that personal trainer sounds TOUGH! But,that's what you pay for right?

I LOVE the cardio part and I'm not a fan of weights, but I know they're important too! I just get bored.

LOL- I would have thought the same thing when he responded matter-of-factly. Women. haha

I hate cardio, I really, truly do. I love how I feel hours afterwards, but I loathe feeling lightheaded and out of breath. Weight work I absolutely LOVE. I love that "pain" the day(s) after- it gives me a feeling of, "Yeah! I kicked my ASS!!"

Legs are my FAVORITE.

Sounds awesome! I love a good workout and I am so not a self motivator, so I love it when someone is there to push me!

Wow! I think I would have killed over from that workout!!! Go you!

I love a good workout... AFTER. I hate it during. With a passion. LOL If i could have a trainer to just tell me what I had to do, it would be a perfect world. I have been doing p90x, and it's kind of like having a trainer in your tv. It really helps me stay motivated!

Keep up the good work lady! :)

I have come to love weights and cardio. I didn't think it would ever happen, but the problem I have is getting a good mix of both.
I love honest trainers!

I pretty much hate all form of exercise. ;-) I love to dance and I love yoga and pilates, probably because those don't feel like "exercise" to me. I hate running, although that seems to be my best bet for staying fit. Speaking of which... off to run around the reservoir. UGH.

Yeah... that whole medicine ball/bike thing sounds pretty awful. My least favorite exercise are wall sits. We used to do them during cheerleading practice back in the day. HATE them.

I've always wanted to try a PT but I'm so out of shape that I'm too embarrassed. I would pass out after 15 minutes. Anyway, I'm impressed! And look at it this way, he tells you your legs look great, which leads to you not working out, which leads to him not getting paid (assuming you were originally planning to continue after the 3 sessions). He's no dummy!

SO PROUD of you, Jax! YAY! When your personal training sessions are over, come to the gym with me and teach me some new moves!

Squats, lunges, etc. Anything lower body that is done slowly and in repetition makes me cringe. Good luck with the workouts, I've recently committed to a new hardcore routine, too.

I'm so proud of you for following through with the trainer. He sounds like you all really worked well together, but that it was tough! That's good!

First of all, way to go for sticking with it the WHOLE HOUR! My first workout with the "Muscle Maniac", I kinda felt like I might barf. I didn't, but I wanted to ; )

I would say weights are probably my least fave, especially arm weights. Because my arms= WEAK!

Good luck at your next session, hun!

Way to go on not giving up! I really strongly dislike all types of exercise, however I think the elliptical bike is my least favorite one...

Okay I need to see this man ASAP! I wish they offered a couple like that in my area :( I subscribe to Groupon and Living Social and have yet to see an awesome personal training deal! Good job for hanging in there though :)

think you'll keep goin after your 3 sessions?

Isn't that such a good sore? It's weird to say, but knowing that you worked your butt (or arms) off and being sore can be so satisfying!

Great job on sticking it out the whole hour! I've recently started at a gym and I LOVE it, but I tried a step class the other day thinking it would be an easy class. I WAS WRONG! It hurt and I had to take a couple of breaks but I made it the full hour. I love yoga and the body ball. I will be starting a Zumba class soon, very excited!

oh I want a personal trainer! Maybe they could motivate me?? haha. Good job!

What the.....? You can't just target one area? Like do lunges and then be lazy about everything else? Because that's my kind of work out!

PS You look great now!

I give you props...i refuse to exercise because i'm just plain lazy in that sense. LOL
Keep it up lady...Hawaii is just around the corner :))

WOW sounds like a great workout. I would definitely recommend Crossfit but I am biased. But I know most CF gyms in the country honor first 1-2 workouts free so you should at least go check it out, I think you'll be surprised :-) anywway good for you for going. sounds like a fabulous workout!
