Being "too" nice?

I smile a lot.

I like to make others happy b/c it makes ME happy.

I don't really enjoy confrontation unless it's really worth it.

I genuinely have a positive outlook on most things.

I feel pretty blessed 99% of the time.

So, why have I been told that I'm "too nice" sometimes?

There's a difference between being nice and being a pushover...and I am not the latter, so I think that's why I get frustrated if people assume I'm a pushover just b/c I'm nice. What's that famous quote... "Don't mistake my kindness for weakness..." Yup...that's a great saying and so accurate.

Anyway, it can be frustrating to be told or treated as though I'm "too nice." I mean.. sure... I can probably come across as nicer than some people would be in a situation but maybe it's because I only get riled up at things that really get under my skin or things that I believe in. And I do often attempt to be a peacekeeper in stressful situations. And also.. I THRIVE in stress oftentimes, unlike some people. So I function pretty well in crazytown situations. I know it's not always meant to be an insult that I'm "nice" but it doesn't make it less frustrating sometimes.

Honestly, I don't like the person I become when I let myself get really bitchy and I wouldn't like looking myself in the mirror if I was viewed as a bitch. I stand up for myself when merited, but it also takes me a lot longer to get to the point that I'm frustrated enough to vocalize it. And I know when I get there, I don't come down easily from it. Maybe that's it. *shrugs*

I bet if you asked Eric if he thinks I'm "too nice" when I'm a crappy mood, he'd fall over laughing. So, I think it just comes from people that don't know me as well.

I was telling my friend, Sara (a fellow attorney) about this random rant and she replied with the funniest thing ever: "Maybe just remind people more that you have an (expletive here) law degree. They don't give JDs to nice people." hahahaha... I love her... :)

End rant. Thanks for listening...er...reading. What about you? Have people commented that you're "too nice" or "too aggressive" or "too ____(fill in the blank)?" I'm curious. Personally, I just think we're all just "too fabulous." ;) Happy Friday, loves.

I've been told I'm too nice too many times by people who don't know me to well, and these people also think I'm a pushover. I hate it!

Haha, I don't think I've ever been accused of being "too nice." I try not to be a bitch, though. I don't think I come across as one... I did hear, frequently, especially in L.A., that I was "awfully young to own a business." I assume that people think I'm younger than I actually am. ;-) PS. There's no such thing as "too nice." I heart you.

I don't think I'll ever be labeled as being too nice, I tend to speak my mind when I shouldn't!

i hear you! i am always told i am a pushover...but really, i just don't like confrontation! i stand firm on things that really bother me, but it takes me a while to get to the point where i will say something (unless we are super close---then ITS ON! :) )

haha! Love that comment from your friend! I get told I'm too happy sometimes. It doesn't really bother me! I'd rather be told that than I'm not happy enough! right?

I get "too nice" all the time. (Yep, this is where you nominate me for sainthood). But, I feel as if it is such a fine line to walk--especially in the legal field--if you're not nice you're a b-word with men issues and a chip on your shoulder and if you're too nice no one takes you seriously. I suppose I'd rather be underestimated at the end of the day!!! oxo

I've been said to be "too nice" as well. I can be a "people pleaser" which I am trying to change that because I know I can't please everyone (I just want to!! Ha!).

Oh, wow...all the time! I'm considered "too nice" and people that I've worked with decided not to like me because I'm always smiling. It makes me soo mad when I hear things like that!

I feel like I could have written this post- minus the law degree ;)
I would get told this all the time by people who didn't really "know" me well. I guess I just know how to pick my battles and don't let the little things get to me- and I also work great under pressure.
FYI: my husband is a lawyer- and I would never call him "too nice." Ha!

That is why you are so loved, you are nice when you need to be as you love others. I think it's amazing.

Seriously, I feel the same exact way!! However, hit me up on a bad day and you dead:) See what a pushover I am then:)

I think we have a very similar personality (only I am obviously lacking the law degree) ;) - but I often feel like people think I am dumb, or too nice because I don't get too upset over little things. The other day, a guy said to me "do you smile while you sleep?" - and my coworker replied "yeah, it's kind of annoying."

I hate that we live so far apart, I would love to meet you! :)

I think you should totally take her advice and throw that law degree out there more often! People stop talking at that point! lol

I've been told I'm "too nice" before. Which usually translates to being a pushover or letting people walk all over you. Sadly, sometimes it's true. But I've definitly gotten better at standing my ground over the years!
