It's not a damn coffee...

Dear Chick in the Cafeteria at Work,

I know you're fairly new, but really you've been here long enough to learn how to work the cash register. Yet, amazingly, you seem to lock it up every single day and then stare at it like it did something to you. It's not funny. I'm hungry during this wait of the rebel cash register.

Also, I get a pepsi and a muffin every morning. My pepsi has a lid and a straw. Yet, every single day, you ask me "Coffee?" and I say "No. Soda." OKAY.. WHO PUTS A LID AND A STRAW IN THEIR COFFEE?!!! Plus, that'd be a damn big coffee. You've been here what...two months...and every single day it's "coffee?" NO, it's not a damn coffee. It's not even in the same kind of cup!!!!!!Whew.. Okay. Sorry. Got a little upset there.

Finally, you seem to make up prices for all the food. My muffin and soda cost me something different EVERY. DAY. But, if I ask you about it, you somehow lock up the system and then do that staring at the machine thing while the rest of the line hates me. I dont think you're secretly stockpiling my pennies every day, but my God, get it together.

My personal favorite was today...when you held up a banana and asked another worker "is this considered whole fruit?" Wow. Just wow.

What the F(ebruary)?!

haha.. I saw a preview for Ellen and she's calling her shows this month "What the February?!" Seemed fitting. haha! Only I bet she's giving away prizes...I shall start using this saying, though. I like it.

I have AWESOME news. (sarcasm noted). My skin is dry. Yours too? Yeah, well.. I bet that scar on your chin wasn't all red and itchy this morning... Ya know..that scar from the STAPH. WHAT THE FEBRUARY!?! (see, it's already working). I am SO hoping this thing isn't coming back from getting irritated or something. ARG.

The reception I went to last night was awesome! Important people and all that jazz...I took pics, but my camera is DEAD. It was at the Skirvin...aka a GORGEOUS hotel. I love places that are renovated like that though...

Excited for girls weekend this weekend in the rock! I was surprised and happy to hear a friend is coming that I havent seen in forever...and even more surprised when I heard she was riding with me. ha! I'm assuming she'll call...or I'll call her today. No worries. Just funny...I want to touch Kat's belly (that sounds sick), drink with friends, take funny photos, play card/board/whatever games, and basically just hang... It will be welcomed chill time for a VERY busy week for me with work travels and meetings.

I don't know if I mentioned it, but I had a great weekend last weekend. I hope you all did, too... :)

Manic...and February...Monday..

It's Feb. I didn't die. Nothing crazy happened. Whew. Feeling a bit relieved. I crossed the threshold and came out okay for now. Feb stresses me out...like a Y2K feeling.. haha..

Okay, so I'm busy with work b/c I've got an out of town thing tomorrow and am leaving for the whole week next week. But, quickly...

* I'm glad the giants won. I dont have any solid reasons. I'm just glad. So there.

* I went glow bowling with Jennifer last night.. yes on Sunday.. and it was FAB! I lost.. but that's no shocker. We didnt have socks so we bought knee highs. LOL!

Alright. Gotta work. Much love. Lates.

I'm totally a Jater....

(as in Jack n Kate supporter in case you didnt read the captions last night)

Live Together. Die Alone. Yeah, that's right.. Lost is profound, people.

Things:
* I liked Ben narrating the "catch up" episode before the real one
* I almost jumped from my chair like 5 times
* Oceanic SIX? Who? What? Go back? (Kate, Jack, Hurley, ___, ___, ___)
* Did they leave people behind to save them...or to be selfish and get themselves home?
* What's with the crazy Hurley?
* Finally, who are these people behind Claire?*sigh* This means new characters, I guess...

I left work at lunch...as did the rest of my dept. The roads were FINE, but I think we had visions of the ice storm of 07. (I really like saying that.. it's like I'm talking to my grandkids.. "the ice storm of 07") hahahaha...
Did you watch that Eli Stone show? I recorded it, but havent watched yet.
I have nothing other than tv to write about. Wow.
Oh, and Angelina is preggers again....and Alex (From Grey's) checked into a psych ward. Now you're updated with all the things I cared about today...aside from the snowy weather outside.
Lates.

I tried to lick my elbow

From a decent forward this morning. :)

In the 1400's a law was set forth in England that a man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb. Hence we have "the rule of thumb"

Many years ago in Scotland , a new game was invented. It was ruled "Gentlemen Only...Ladies Forbidden"...and thus the word GOLF entered into the English language.

The first couple to be shown in bed together on prime time TV were Fred and Wilma Flintstone.

Every day more money is printed for Monopoly than the U.S. Treasury.

Men can read smaller print than women can; women can hear better.

Coca-Cola was originally green.

It is impossible to lick your elbow.

The State with the highest percentage of people who walk to work: Alaska

The cost of raising a medium-size dog to the age of eleven: $ 16,400

The average number of people airborne over the U.S. in any given hour: 61,000

Intelligent people have more zinc and copper in their hair.

The first novel ever written on a typewriter: Tom Sawyer.

The San Francisco Cable cars are the only mobile National Monuments.

Each king in a deck of playing cards represents a great king from history: Spades - King David; Hearts - Charlemagne; Clubs -Alexander the Great and Diamonds - Julius Caesar

111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321

If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle. If the horse has one front leg in the air the person died as a result of wounds received in battle. If the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes.

Only two people signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, John Hancock and Charles Thomson. Most of the rest signed on August 2, but the last signature wasn't added until 5 years later.

Q. If you were to spell out numbers, how far would you have to go until you would find the letter "A"? A. One thousand

Q. What do bulletproof vests, fire escapes, windshield wipers, and laser printers all have in common? A. All were invented by women.

Q. What is the only food that doesn't spoil? A. Honey

Q. Which day are there more collect calls than any other day of the year? A. Father's Day

In Shakespeare's time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes. When you pulled on the ropes the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on. Hence the phrase......... "goodnight, sleep tight."

At least 75% of people who read this will try to lick their elbow!

YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2008 when...
1. You accidentally enter your PIN on the microwave.
2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.
3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of three.
4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.
5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.
6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.
7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen
8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't even have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.
10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.
11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )
12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.
13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.
1 4. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.
15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list. ~~~~~~~~~~~AND FINALLY~~~~~~~~~~~~ NOW U R LAUGHING at yourself.

Volume 16

Not gonna lie.. a bit bummy today. Long distance love is hard, people. We saw each other last for New Years Eve.

Schedules:

Aaron:
Now-end of Feb: bar prep.
Feb 26-28: bar exam in California
Feb 23-March 5th: He'll be in San Diego
March 15-22: his spring break. Around the 17th or 18th, he's heading to LA for an event.

Mine:
Feb: Arkansas, Washington DC (not that I could we could visit during Feb anyway)
March 4: Meeting in STL (also Aaron's bday)
March 10-11: Meeting in New Orleans (TBA whether I HAVE to go or not...hoping not)
March 14-16: Blaze's bachelorette in STL

Compare the dates. Right. I HATE visiting during the work week unless it's just outside of the weekend. I mean.. if you cant make the most of a visit and make it a long weekend, that just sucks. Plus, that eats a LOT of vaca time from work, so..doing a Thurs-Sunday or a Friday-Tuesday would be great, but doesnt look very much on the possible side of things. I've sat here and thought "well, I could move my March 4th meeting to the 5th then travel up to Chicago afterwards and then head back to fly out for New Orleans..." Ha. That sounds fun.

I get comfort in knowing a visit to each other is within our grasps. When something happens that makes me think otherwise, I get soooo frustrated...and bogged down. Long distance isn't for amateurs, my friends. It's as though the little weekend visits are teasers for when we get to actually spend some time together...REAL, unfixed, TIME. And damnit.. I need my little weekend teasers.

The whole points is...It gets harder and easier at the same time to go without something the longer you don't have it. Both of those feelings frustrate the shit out of me. Boo.

Also, I woke up to "Yeah, Bob, we're expecting 5 inches of snow tomorrow..." WHAT?! Nooooo! I'll show them where they can shove their 5 inches of snow. If I didn't think I'd get in trouble for job searching, I'd totally look in the virgin islands or somewhere...just to kinda make myself feel good. lol!

And I want a cheesburger. Yeah.

Alright. Done whining. :) Happy Hump Day before Lost Day! (Yes, Lost needs its own day)

Here Comes February, ready or not

Dude. Made it through Jan almost.. Now, it's just Feb. Ugh. I mean..it's not that I hate the month that corresponds with Love, Black History, and Deathiversaries, but uh...yeah, I dont like it. I know lots of you are in agreement and are also in the "No way, you're parent died in Feb, too?!!" club. Then, you compound that with pink and red hearts everywhere practically pissing love all over everyone and it's just enough to put me on lockdown til the month is over.

I like pink (obviously) but hearts? Really? I mean.. they're alright, but do they have to be EVERYWHERE?! I'm just not a big "heart" fan, never have been. I think stores confuse men into thinking hearts are awesome and all women love them. I think they look like a 6 year old should be wearing them. Whatever. My opinion. Like it or dont.

Remember the days of pre-selecting valentines for the people you really liked? Aw.. Those were the days. My little self-decorated sack always looked like I had some deep, hidden issues...with colors all over it and random shapes. LOL! Love it.

Well, all in all, Feb wasn't so bad last year, so I'm staying positive. My January is typically worse, so I'm kinda hoping I'm over the hump. I dont even mind Valentines and am the first to be giddy receiving flowers, etc. Granted, a blow up Cupid that I could sit in my window to scare passers-by would be just as cool. It's just that the month of Feb seems so extraordinarily long...

So, I'm not going into it with open arms and a cheesy smile, but I'm not pouting and stomping my feet either. With a shoulder shrug and a positive outlook, I'll trudge into the month that's spelled quite strangely.

Things in Feb to look forward to already:
* DC with Carrie!
* Little Rock with the girls
* Aaron's getting done with the bar exam

Also, Gossip Girl was a RECAP last night. Who does that? Recap. Hmph.

Things.

I'm not still reading that book but I'm too lazy to take it down.

I think my dog and I have similar personalities. Seriously. Plus, I'd like to growl more.

I'm annoyed easily lately.

Thinking about kickboxing this week (and zumba). Kicking a bag might help with frustration? Maybe.

That's all I've got. Back to work. Gossip Girl's on tonight. Stoked.

Sunday Funday

So, just got back from mom's house where I did laundry. She's kept lots of my high school college stuff. Okay, that said, I have some pics of Heath Ledger in my room along with some other celebs on a bulletin board. Okay, admittedly I was scary obsessed with Heath for awhile. Now, it's just freaky to have the pics. Weird. Dead guy hangin out on my bulletin board right next to Michelle Pfeiffer (who we all know I'm pathetically obsessed with).

Friday, Kel came in town and we got a small group to go out for a little bit. Sat, we went to her friend's engagement party and then to the WILD. HORSE. saloon! ha!

My fav is the guy behind us in this pic! LOL!

My high school friend, Brett, and some of his friends were out on Friday, too...No idea what was going on in this pic but it's funny...

Kari and Kelli look like hustlers-lol! This was before Kari met a cowboy named Bud. That's all you get from that story...

Things:

- Been quite down about stupid stuff lately. It's not really stupid...but the fact that I've been letting it bother me so much IS stupid. A lot of it has to do with that I went to school SOOooooo long and have Soooooo much debt and am making just over what I'd be making if I'd started working 4 years ago right out of college. That said, I realize I have a lot of upward mobility potential that I otherwise wouldn't. It's not that...it's just..well.. it's overwhelming, I think. Really overwhelming. It seems like something happens EVERY month to stop me from saving money. Then, I totally believe single people get SCREWED with taxes, expenses, etc. That's my brief rant. A friend I ran into this weekend said it best and I am trying to take his perspective. He said "well, one thing I've got now... is more ambition. I want MORE. I want to keep looking. I want to keep reaching... If I'd been making this salary out of college, I'd be thinking I was doing just fine. However, out of law school, I just want to bust my BUTT and move up." Good perspective, me thinks...

- Along the saving money thing, been thinking about doing something on the side to help build a better savings... maybe drafting wills, etc. You need a will? Just sayin... Kinda morbid, but whatever. Everybody dies. Might as well not get screwed in the legal system, too...

- LOST STARTS this week. It's GOT to be a good week then. Plus, had a great weekend. That's always a good sign for the week. :)

- Zumba is "stepping it up" this week. This. frightens. me. I'm already thinking the teacher is on some serious crack b/c her body moves faster than Gracie when she sees a cat.

- I hope everyone had a great weekend- My countdown has begun to Little Rock and Washington DC!

- I'm trying to stop saying the F word. I'll let you know how it goes. Expectation: not well.

- I'm tired of those "stop smoking" commercials on MTV. Latest one- "magical amount" song thing. I'm not amused and I don't smoke. So, I wish they'd stop getting that damn song stuck in my head. Even if I DID smoke, I dont think the weirdass singing cartoon characters would make me stop.

Things that make me smile...

Soooo.. shouldve blogged this a LONG time ago, but Carrie sent me this AWESOME shirt awhile ago. I never got around to taking a picture of it b/c I wore it and it felt strange to take a picture of a dirty shirt. LOL! Something super funny.. Maureen went to Old Navy the same day I got Carrie's in the mail and got me one as a surprise b/c it made her think of me. I couldn't be happier b/c I sleep in them, wear them to the gym, all while boasting my owl pride. HA! Ah, sorority days... This shirt continues to make my day everytime I wear it.

I shall take them both to DC and make Carrie wear one with me for a picture. Yeah, I'm serious.

Kel and I went to Tar-jay today and lookie what was on SUPER sale... THESE AWESOME SHEETS! Bright. Fun. Cute. They're not super nice, but they'll do the trick and I can't wait to roll around in them. Yeah, sounds dirty. Whatever. Finally, this should make YOU laugh. See this cute pic? Right. Please check out the awesome soy sauce I have on my chin that NO ONE told me about all night. Right. Double click and make it bigger it you dont believe me. Kinda hot, right? HA! I don't even care...obviously b/c I made it my profile pic...just super small. haha! :)

It's the weekend...I'm thirsty...

Need wine. Like now. Like an hour ago. Like maybe when my alarm went off this morning actually.

Kelli will be here soon. Til then, it's zumba time bitches!

Stream of consciousness (Volume 15)

So, I have a lot to say but dont really think it's all that sensical or important. So, here you go.

Dude. I got back from my VP's meeting feeling good. The topics had to do with things that my little BA in Psych brain totally digs- Leadership coaching, dynamics of a successful team, etc. One thing a speaker said that struck me is...success is really just a combo of three things:

LUCK. TIMING. OPPORTUNITY.

Hit the nail on the head if you ask me. You see, I have wrestled and wrestled lately with "do I make a move now?" versus "Do I wait this out and see where it takes me" versus "But, I'm only young once and what if I dont push this thing? What if I'm missing a chance?" versus "But I dont wanna push it too hard.. if things are meant to be, then they are."

Whew.

I'm talking about work, decisions, relationships, life. I think your twenties are filled with trying to figure out how much to push things versus how much to sit on them and hope they work out. Job. Money. Moving. Relationship. Whatever. It applies all over the board.

It truly is luck + timing + opportunity. Does that make things any more clear? No. *sigh* You'd have NO idea how overanalytical I've been lately about this whole "life" thing. It's quite annoying to Gracie. She hears me vent a lot. She tilts her head and acts interested. Whatever.

Okay, here's Volume 16 within volume 15

Now that I'm old enough/in a job where I do business travel, business MEN freak me out. Since when did airports become a dating service? Someone needs to tap into this market. Seriously. Match.com anyone?

I mean...I think I had like 3 guys hit on me from the rental car drop to the airport to back home. None made me feel overly flattered by their advances. Let's put it like that. My personal fav was the guy who said he was in town for a LAWSUIT with his exwife. (I'd told him I was a lawyer thinking it'd make him go away. It obviously didn't). It's just freaky and weird. It's like some subculture of sexual airport predators. Granted, I was the ONLY chick in a sports bar and was eating nachos and drinking a Corona. I didn't exactly look unapproachable.

Other stuff
I watched the debate (Dem) from my hotel room. I gotta say I'm NOT a fan of the mud-slinging, but Hil won some points with me that she'd originally lost. She had a bad suit on, though. And Barack's ears looked bigger than normal. Then there's poor Edwards who didn't get hardly any air time. I'll be tired of all ths soon. For now, I'm typically on the edge of my seat. WHEN did I care about politics? *sigh* I'm more interested in the strategy of it all. Saw a pic of Hil and Bill's faces merged.. title "Hill-Billy" ha! Bring on super Tuesday! :)

Washington DC is coming up!!! Carrie and I will be meeting there!! YAY! I have a work conference there and then am staying an extra night so Carrie can drive up. You guys are gonna just love two blogs full of the same photos.. lol! In all seriousness, I'm pretty pumped. With the conf being over Valentines and with my co-worker bringing her hubby, I was kinda bummed. (Aaron's got the bar exam and stuff). Carrie and I had talked about meeting there, but actually made formal plans today! :) Plus, I havent been to DC since before I could legally drink.. Let's not talk about that phase in my life, though. lol!

If you've made it this far, Little Gracie ate my boots....and heels.. So, if you know anywhere that has black heels on sale, let me know ASAP. I'm going at lunch tomorrow (Friday). Sorry for the randomness. Thanks for bearing with me.

Oh, and who is ready for The Rock?! Headed there before DC! WOO HOO!! I get to feel Kat's belly. That sounds dirty. Yeah, it does. ha!
