What the February?!

I dont understand, but I'm on it...
Wednesday Goodness...and a little ranting...
So, before I get on a soapbox (cause I'm going to)...I'll ramble about my morning. :)
This morning, I got the be a panelist (of three, including me) to score a high school mock trial competition. Apparently, it's big time. I mean.. the thing was held in the actual courthouse, attorney and judges score them (why I was there-duh), and they've been preparing since November! The final team goes on to NATIONALS!
I was SHOCKED at how prepared they were given their level in school. They were familiar with an edited version of the evidence code, etc.. They had to introduce exhibits, stipulate facts, give opening and closing statemtents, examine (and cross) three witnesses, conduct voir dire... and raise appropriate objections. (Teams were approximately 8 kids from each school-one side defense, other plaintiff). We had to pick the best atty and best witness from each side. I got a little argumentative with the other panelists about who I wanted to win. Comedy. Then, we got to give em feedback. It was SO cute.. they wrote down everything we said super diligently. I think I was the Paula Abdul of the committee...lots of "good job when you did ___, work on ___, but excellent job with ___..." haha.. :) My feedback form was FULLLLLL of examples of how each kid did well, plus a bonus tip for improvement. C'mon, I didnt wanna be a dreamkiller here. (Plus, they really did do super well). Anyway, fun and I'll definitely do it again.
Know what pleasantly surprised me? In my opinion, the best attorneys were all minorities-two African American guys and a Caucasian girl. I didn't make a point to really notice races or sex..that's not what I'm saying...but rather at the end, when I was thinking back, I really appreciated the place our country is in with diversity. I liked it. *nodding affirmatively* :)
I was so thrilled to be back on that side of town for lunch again, I HAD to eat at Queenies! Luckily, Dennis was a willing lunch companion. And uh, I might think Valentines is kinda funny blah blah, but there is NOTHING funny about these fabulous choco covered strawberries. Oh.My.Gawd. I HAD to have one. And HAD to take a picture of what a BITE looks like out of these monsters of choco-berry goodness. AM.A.ZING. If Vday brings the berries, I'm a supporter! :)
Okay, soapbox starting...NOW. I was commenting to a co worker about how pleased I am that a radio station is boycotting Chris Brown's music thanks to his beat down of his girlfriend..at least temporarily. I've never been beaten nor has anyone in my family, but I cant tell you how strongly I feel about this stuff. I used to want to be an attorney for DVIS (before I realized they make less than nothing and abusers often follow the attys home...yeeikes). Anyway, my co worker was kinda like "eh..yeah.. I suppose." I was like "Look, people'll drop Michael Phelps from endorsements for smoking weed...LAME...but he DID break the law...I'll give em that...So, radios SHOULD be boycotting Chris' music right now for friggin BEATING his girlfriend." I could tell he didnt agree with my Michael Phelps weed assessment as lame any more than he agreed with my Chris Brown one..haha...But, anyway...I continue to make my point here. I applaud them for boycotting his music for right now.
*stepping down from soapbox*
Annnnd... have a great day! :)

Tuesday Random Boringness
Melissa is still on the bachelor! YEAH-YUH! I really want her to win, but the girl I love never wins.. *sigh* I mean.. I liked Jenny and that other guy was inches from picking DeAnna..who we all found out has the personality of a tree stump. I mean seriously.
The weather's calling for hail. I'm sitting here contemplating ways to save my windshield and/or new car's hood/roof, etc. Throwing my body on it seems like a good plan right now...
Alright, I promised G dawg some outdoor playtime so I'd better get outta here (no the time on my blog isnt correct I dont think... It's always saying weird times.. whatever. Right now, its the end of the workday. So there) :)

SPRINGTIME OVERHAUL!
It makes me want to clean EVERYTHING. Baseboards, wax the wood floor, etc. It's crazy stuff.
I want all new clothes. And to re-organize my closet. (note the singular.. b/c I have ONE.CLOSET. ahh..old buildings. sigh).
I want to work out almost every minute of the day (until I actually go to the gym and think "whoa. this is hard.")
Basically, it's the weather. The nice weather makes me want to freshen everything up about everything.
Tonight: gym, laundry and the Bachelor (GO MELISSA!!!). Tomorrow: baseboards. (nervous).
And uh.. just for the fun of it.. do you know how to play spades? What the hell is a "trick?" It's a long story. Just fill me in. Thanks. XOXO.

Weekend Wonderful

In the Shades of Evening....there must...
Today, I accidentally emailed a friend at her old address at the old law firm. (Mary, duh). A partner shot an email back saying I basically needed to update my contacts list. So, since I have a headache, I wrote a thank you back to her and confirmed my contacts were updated; they'd just failed me today, however I fully understood where my email was NOT intended to go with a "haha" added. Basically I was totally unbothered and laughed at the sitch. I wouldnt have laughed at the sitch even a year ago. I prolly would have been scared shitless to see her name in my inbox where my heart pounded faster for that moment. Not anymore.. b/c really..who the hell cares. I'm not a child. I'm an adult with a law degree and great job. The fact that I laughed and shook my head instead of going "OMG I cant believe I emailed her there!" was totally evident of some serious changes I've been through...haha...
Change is so weird, b/c sometimes you dont even realize it's happening. I mean.. I know when I left the firm, that was an obvious change....but I dont know when my reaction to that partner's email became laughter instead of fear... Anyway, change can be many things, but one can only hope in her 20s, change is mostly a good thing....
Ranting in the abstract per usual...but just sayin...I think some of you know what I'm talking about aside from the firm rantings.. (and no, I'm not leaving my job, sillies. I love my job!)
I'll write about Lost later... likely in conjunction with Grey's. :) Have a great evening!!!
